The Golden Six Hour story

It started with a trail worth caring for.

In October 2019, Gretchen scouted the Swauk Forest Discovery Loop near Blewett Pass. The larches were turning, but fallen trees and overgrown brush needed attention. She saw a place for a fall gathering and an event that could help care for the trail.

It fit the company she had just started. Walla Trails & Community brought together her years in nonprofit work and trail running: welcoming people, giving back, and leaving room for a little competition.

COVID changed the first plans. In 2020 and 2021, Golden went virtual. Runners and hikers shared fall photos from their own outings. Gretchen also invited participants to support Kittitas Valley Healthcare and local food banks.

The first in-person race followed in 2022. The 2.45-mile loop brought people back together between climbs, with autumn color, warm food, pumpkin pie, and playful outfits becoming part of the day. That is the Golden Six Hour Gretchen is handing to Cielo Running.
